Every now and then I see a meme that reads something about having anxiety over an embarrassing moment from years ago and that you’re an embarrassing human being. *Don’t quote me on that, I will find the original meme because it’s funny* Anyway, I see it every now and then and every time I’m reminded of something I did years ago when the girls were much younger.
Imagine you’re a mother of two small children and you’re in the habit of opening doors for said children and ushering them through, under your arm. Now, imagine you’re the same mother of two small children only today, you’re out running errands with your mom, no children in sight. You and your mom approach a store and you, because you’ve been raised right, go to open the door for her.
As it just so happens, another woman who is about the same age as your mom, is also making her way towards the door. Willingly, you hold the door open for both women. However, instead of being normal and stepping to the side of the door as you hold it open, you usher the stranger under your arm and through the doorway as if she is your child.
This doesn’t strike you as odd until one of two things happen: 1. You register the slight hesitation from the other woman, and 2. You make eye contact with your mom who is watching you with a bemused look on her face. It’s at that moment when your brain begins to catch up and you realize how weird it was for you to have a stranger walk under your arm like that and you burst out laughing and continue to laugh about it, years and years later.
There you have it. Certainly not my most embarrassing but, in my opinion, one of the funnier moments. It’s probably one of those “You had to be there” moments but, every now and then, I’ll think about it and get a fit of the giggles. I truly hope that the woman I did this to thinks about it from time to time and also gets a fit of the giggles. Anyway, I found the original meme, below.
