What Is It Like Raising Children Overseas?

Exactly what I was hoping would happen is happening. My girls are becoming understanding and empathetic towards others. Yesterday, my youngest told me she would be fasting today. When I asked her why she said it was because her friend had been trying to fast for Ramadan but had broken the fast twice. In other words, her friend was struggling. So, in a show of solidarity and to help their friend get through her day, the friend group decided to fast with her.

Now, before anyone gets the wrong idea and thinks I’m painting an unrealistic picture of parental perfection, the youngest also ran out the door this morning screaming that she doesn’t love me so…

Empathy and compassion for friends = 1

Empathy and compassion for family = 0
